Sven Ratzke is one of Europe's biggest cabaret stars, regularly playing cabaret venues, festivals and prestigious theaters throughout Holland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He has also performed in Italy, Denmark, Spain, Avignon, New York (Café Sabarsky, Joe's Pub), Edinburgh Festival, and the Mexico City International Cabaret Festival.

Ratzke's combination of 1920s cabaret, outré style and off-beat humor has brought him critical praise and adoring audiences. His eclectic musical repertoire includes German cabaret (Weill, Brecht), Lou Reed, David Bowie and original songs -- all arranged by jazz pianist Charly Zastrau and interpreted with Ratzke's unique flair. His shows are characterized by extensive audience interaction, improvisation and delivery in the vein of stand up comedy. In addition to his own cabaret shows, he has starred in a Dutch/German production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig's writer/director and star of the film) saw the Berlin production, and declared Ratzke's the best Hedwig he has seen in the role!

Ratzke was born in 1977 at the German-Dutch border, the child of a German mother and Dutch father. He grew up in the Netherlands and in the late 1990s moved to Berlin, where his grandparents were from. In Berlin he met Hildegard Knef -- at the time one of the last surviving German divas -- who would become a teacher and mentor to him. When Ratzke premiered his first solo show at Berlin's prestigious Bar Jeder Vernunft, his career took off. Soon after, he performed late night shows at Edinburgh Festival that attracted the likes of Julie Christie and John Cleese. His last show, NachtSpiele, toured for two years around the globe. His latest show, Diva Diva's, is an homage to ten of the greatest divas of the 1960s.

In addition to his solo shows, Ratzke frequently collaborates with other artists -- everyone from mainstream pop stars to underground acts and vaudeville artists. In Holland, he toured with Dutch pop star Ellen ten Damme in a show called On The Rocks, which featured a 22-piece band and was seen by more than 25,000 people over the course of two months in Amsterdam and Den Hague. He also co-starred and toured with opera star Claron McFadden in Groschenblues and has toured with the Tiger Lillies.

Venues and festivals where Sven Ratzke has performed include: Fringe Festival Edinburgh, Festival Avignon, Millers studio Zürich, Stadtsaal Wien (Vienna), Bar Jeder Vernunft Berlin, DeLaMar Theater Amsterdam, Oval Salzburg, Opera München (Munich), Luxor Theater Rotterdam, Joe's Pub New York, Neue Galerie New York, Festival de Cabaret Int.
